Minimal Safety Distance Calculator

Minimal Safety Distance Calculator helps you quickly determine how much free space you need below you to avoid contact with an obstacle or the ground in the case of a fall. Simply select the type of fall arrest device, the length of the lanyards, and the user’s weight. The result is an approximate value that allows you to safely plan work at heights.

This tool is based on the principles of the EN 355 standard and the actual performance of Singing Rock fall arresters.

What is a safe fall height?

A safe fall height is the minimum clearance below the user that prevents impact with an obstacle when the fall is arrested. It includes:

  • fall length
  • energy absorber activation
  • system extension
  • user height
  • safety margin

Why is it important?

Because even a properly used energy absorber can extend the system by tens of centimeters during a fall. Without sufficient clearance, a serious injury can occur.

How to optimize it?

  • place the anchor point as high as possible
  • use the shortest possible lanyards
  • choose the correct type of energy absorber
  • minimize slack in the system
