LOCKER – NEW CERTIFICATION 2025

This article summarizes the changes in certification and the method of use of the LOCKER device and does not replace the Instructions for Use. Before use, it is essential to read the current instructions and thoroughly understand them.

Standards EN 12841 and EN 353-2 have been updated, which required changes to the methodology for using the LOCKER.
The new standards include, for example, a dynamic test on a pre-tensioned rope, testing on wet ropes, or an optional edge load test, etc.

The device itself does not change physically (only the marking and the instructions are different).
To meet the impact force requirements, we have added an energy absorber to the LOCKER. It is no longer possible to use the new LOCKER with the LOCKER SLING.

LOCKER LINK is produced in two lengths, 20 cm and 40 cm, but both versions contain the same energy absorber inside (the shorter Reactor). The energy absorber is not certified on its own; it is an accessory to the LOCKER.
When the energy absorber is used, the permitted load of the LOCKER increases to 150 kg.

The LOCKER is certified for two different applications:

1) EN 12841

• use as a back-up device for rope access (working in suspension on two ropes)
• can be used with any static rope with a diameter of 11 mm
• connection to the harness either directly with a carabiner (100 kg) or via the LOCKER LINK energy absorber (150 kg)

2) EN 353-2

• mobile fall arrester including a flexible anchor line (i.e. ladder + one rope, as an alternative e.g. to a winch)
• according to the standard, this is considered a complete non-separable system (fall arrester + specific rope + specific carabiner + specific energy absorber), e.g. like SITE. For this reason, the instructions refer to the so-called LOCKER SET (created and coded for certification purposes)
• LOCKER SET will not be sold as a single packaged item. If requested by the customer, they will receive the individual products separately
• connection to the harness either with a carabiner (100 kg) or via the LOCKER LINK energy absorber LOCKER LINK (150 kg)
• when used with an energy absorber, it meets the optional requirements for horizontal use with a fall over an edge

  SUMMARY

  • in practice, the LOCKER will function the same as before
  • the old LOCKER can continue to be used according to the old instructions, as before (with LOCKER SLING)
  • new products should be offered and sold only in the variants specified in the tables provided
  • for SITE, the only change concerns the maximum load (150 kg for EN 358)
